What's New    

Praise God! More than 1,000 new cross-cultural ministries in North America have been recorded on Pentecost 2000+ Web site. The Pentecost 2000+ effort has come to a close but the Pentecost 2000+ Web site will remain and be accessible for its resources and information to help congregations to reach out to multi-ethnic peoples with the message of Jesus Christ. However, it will not be accessible to add new ministries.
 
 
What is Pentecost 2000+? Pentecost 2000+ is a special effort of the World Mission Department of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS). It involves LCMS districts, congregations and mission-active people across North America.

Our original goal was to begin 1000 new cross-cultural ministries by the end of year 2000 AD. By God's grace and the efforts and prayers of many, 444 new cross-cultural ministries were started in the LCMS in 1999 and 2000. We have some exciting news! Pentecost2000 will continue! At the 61st Regular Convention of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, a resolution was passed which reads in part: "Resolved that the Synod in convention affirm the Pentecost2000 initiative of the Board for Mission Services for the next triennium; . . By continuing this effort, and building on the momentum already established, it is hoped that many more people of different cultures will have the opportunity to hear of Christ's love for them within the context of their own culture. Our overall goal remains the same, entering the third millennium with a membership that continues to reflect the changing face of America, a face which will look "more like heaven." "After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every ethnic group, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands." (Revelation 7:9).

What are these new ministries? They may be new congregations, ESL (English as a Second Language) classes, food pantries, Bible studies, or any other outreach that shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people from a different culture.

How can I get involved?
  1. Learn more about cross-cultural ministries. Currently, under the sponsorship of LCMS World Mission, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has numerous existing "cross-cultural" and "culture specific" ministries operating with the following people groups:

  2. Browse through the new ministries already begun under the Pentecost2000 and Pentecost2000+ mission effort.
  3. Become a prayer partner! If you are willing to pray regularly for the Pentecost2000+ mission effort, click here to sign up.
  4. Review the various resources available to begin and support cross-cultural ministries.
  5. Suggest to your congregation leaders ways you might begin a new cross-cultural ministry.
